--------------------------------------------------------------------------
ISMR 2001 is the successor to the very successful symposium ISMR'99 which
was held in Yokohama, Japan in March 1999. ISMR'99 was the first
international symposium focusing on the field of mixed reality (MR), and
the symposium attracted more than 200 participants from all over the world
to discuss component technologies and integration methodologies for
realizing mixed reality environments.
ISMR2001 will be held jointly with IEEE Virtual Reality 2001 at the same
conference site. The dual purposes of this second symposium is to review
the progress of research in the field of mixed reality during the previous
two-year period and to define new re-search frontiers and goals in this
rapidly evolving field of mixed reality.
Selected papers from the proceedings of this symposium will be collected
in a Special Issue on Mixed Reality of PRESENCE: Teleoperator and Virtual
Environment published by MIT Press.
