I am looking for assistance in getting AR to work on an SGI 540. I am
getting the "Couldn't get the image" error from simple.exe. Details are
below. Thanks.
I am attempting to make the AR ToolKit run on a Silicon Graphics Model 540
PC running Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Build 1381 Service Pack 6a with 2 CPU's,
1 GB RAM, and an NTSC video camera connected to the composite video input on
the back of the CPU. I know of one supposedly identical system successfully
running the AR ToolKit but am unable to make it work on my system.
After a reboot, the following two video capture programs can be run any
number of times and will successfully capture video without needing a
reboot:
C:\Winnt\system32\viddiag.exe
Window | Input Monitor | Start
File | Exit
C:\Winnt\system32\vidcap32.exe
File | Exit
After a reboot, the Microsoft Vision SDK test program can be run
successfully one time as:
ExCamera.exe
File | Exit
Upon successive attempts, after the "Select an image Source Provider" and
"VisVFW: Video for Windows", the message, "The provider 'VisVFW: Video For
Windows' does not have any connected devices.", is received and color bars
come up instead of video input. This is fixed on the next reboot.
Once this error occurs, viddiag gives "Cannot Open Input Path!" and vidcap32
gives "Capture device was not detected." until the next reboot.
After a reboot, the simple.exe program in the AR ToolKit gives:
"Couldn't get the image"
and the image area is black.
I have looked at the following web pages to download the AR toolkit and the
Microsoft Vision SDK:

I am using Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 Standard Edition and have recompiled the
AR libraries and the simple.exe program.
I have studied through the documentation I found with AR ToolKit and the
Vision SDK.
I have tried with both the "Default Configuration" and "Visualization"
selected for the "Graphics Settings and Memory Reservation Profile" under
"Silicon Graphics Settings" for "Display" in the Control Panel.
