doctoral position in image processing and augmented reality
----------------------------------------------------------------
A doctoral fellowship is available at INRIA Lorraine/LORIA in nancy
(France) for three years. The ISA team works in various fundamental
areas
such as geometry (differential, algebraic, projective), numerical
analysis
(domain decomposition method), algorithmics (complexity,
parallelism),
for the purpose of developing applications in the areas of computer
vision
and computer graphics.
Privileged application areas are: Architecture and Archology,
Earth Sciences (oil prospecting), Life Sciences (medical imaging).
(see the
URL http://www.loria.fr/isa)
Augmented reality (AR) is a technique in which the user's view is
enhanced
or augmented with additional information generated from a computer
model.
In order to make AR systems effective, the computer generated objects
and
the real scene must be combined seamlessly so that the virtual
objects
align well with the real ones. It is therefore essential to
determine
accurately the viewpoint and the optical properties of the cameras.
Our team has now a good experience in viewpoint computation (see
demos at
http://www.loria.fr/~berger). Now we plan to design a (nearly) real
time
augmented reality system in order to be able to consider
interactive
applications (such as games or virtual visits). This work takes place
in an
ESPRIT Project.
The appointee's primary research areas will be:
- real time viewpoint computation using vision based techniques
- Interaction between real and virtual objects
- Visualization in a see through display
Applications should include a full CV plus names and addresses of one
referee. Applications should be sent to berger@l ....... AND
gsimon@l .......
The starting date is october, 2001.
