At Siggraph this year Point Grey (www.ptgrey.com) were showing off some of
their very impressive firewire cameras. I've been in touch with them since
then and they say that they have volume discounts available for their
cameras. I just wanted to drop an email to the list to see if there was
any interest in putting together a group purchase.
These small firewire cameras would be perfect for many AR applications,
especially once we get the firewire version of ARToolKit finished in a
week or so :) The FireFly model can capture 640x480 resolution video at 30
frames/second while the DragonFly model supports daisy chaining of cameras
together. They both use a high resolution 1/3" CCD and the camera
parameters can be completely computer controlled. See www.ptgrey.com for
more details.
Normally Point Grey sell the FireFly model for $600 (+$50 shipping,
insurance and handling). They say tha if we order 10 cameras they will
sell them to us for $4000 ($400/camera), and they'll give us a much great
volume discount for orders above that.
Let me know if you're interested in putting together a group purchase and
I'll coordinate it..
Thanks,
Mark
