Call for Papers
Tracking For Interactive
Computer Graphics Systems
Special Issue of IEEE CG&A Nov./Dec. 2002
Guest Editors
Simon Julier and Gary Bishop
Submission deadline: 15 April 2002
Acceptance notices: 15 June 2002
Final revisions: 1 August 2002
Tracking has played an important role in the field of interactive computer graphics since its earliest days. From wearable augmented reality systems for maintenance and repair to film special effects, there is a critical need to accurately measure 3D position and orientation. The importance of tracking has led to the development of a great variety of tracking technologies and systems. These vary in the type of sensors and their geometric arrangement; the measurement frequency; the algorithms used for signal processing and pose estimation; and in the ways they are used.
The November/December issue of IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications 2002 will focus on recent advances in tracking methods, techniques, and applications of tracking systems. Potential topics include (but are not limited to)
Novel sensing technologies.
Novel tracking systems, especially approaches that reduce fixed infrastructure or that operate outdoors.
Novel applications of tracking systems.
Performance metrics and evaluation studies.
Computational methods for improving tracking system output (for example motion prediction and data smoothing).
Papers should be approximately eight magazine pages with roughly five figures or images, where a page is approximately 800 words. Please attempt to limit the number of references to the 10 to 12 most relevant. Also consider providing background materials in sidebars for nonexpert readers. Color images may be interspersed through the body of the paper. Detailed CG&A style and length guidelines are available.
Send final submissions in PDF format via email to both guest editors, Simon Julier (julier@a ...............) and Gary Bishop (gb@c .........). Please direct any correspondence prior to submission to
