A year ago I went out and bought a very cheap no name firewire card (there are lots to chose from) and plugged it into a pretty old P2-333 machine and it worked no problems. Windows 98 and XP detected it just fine, so I don't think there should be any problems with PCI revisions unless the card is a very special and expensive one with some kind of bizarre features or drivers.

Wayne

Subject: How to determine the PCI Version
Dear all,
I would like to buy a FireWire PCI host card to start to use FireWire cameras
with system which is not shipped with firewire ports. It is my understanding that
the FireWire PCI card will work only on system with PCI version 2.1 and above.
1) can you confirm this restriction
2) how can I determine the PCI version -> I tried System Analyzer but it does not
determine PCI version with Win2k
thanks
Yohan
