In general, I've found that all the CCD cameras (firewire or analog)
perform poorly under low lighting conditions. The firewire cameras we
have (including the DCAM, the PointGrey Firefly, and the cheap iBot's)
all perform pretty similarly to the analog CCD cameras in terms of image
quality.
So, in a nutshell, I don't think you should blame firewire per se, but
think about ones with better imaging. Or, use more light.
