One of the limitations of ARToolkit is that its rotation accuracy is not as
good as its positional accuracy. We played around with projecting "laser
beams" from a fiducial marker and it jumped around all over the place. The
best success we have had is using the fiducial marker as a 2D cursor, and
then project from the users head along the cursor into the environment. This
only relies on the positioning accuracy of ARtoolkit (which is quite good)
and gives much better results. We use it outdoors on our Tinmith mobile
backpack system - see http://www.tinmith.net

Wayne
