The Human Interface Technology Laboratory New Zealand (HIT Lab NZ) at the
University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand, has two funded PhD
postions available.
1/ PhD in Next Generation Telecollaboration
The focus of this research is on next generation desktop telecollaboration
tools. The student undergoing this research will develop and explore
innovative interfaces for enhanced desktop video and audio conferencing,
especially with an emphasis on 3D virtual object sharing.
Desired Skills: C/C++ coding, OpenGL/Computer Graphics, knowledge
of experimental design and user testing, desktop networked application
development.
2/ PhD in Advanced Augmented Reality
The focus of this research is on developing innovative computer vision
techniques for Augmented Reality tracking and interaction. A particular
emphasis is on methods for natural feature tracking in which a real camera
pose can be determined from features found in normal pictures and print
material.
Desired Skills: C/C++ coding, OpenGL/Computer Graphics, computer
vision/image processing, advanced mathematics.
For both of these positions there is full scholarship funding available.
For a suitably qualified undergraduate student, a PhD from the Unviersity
of Canterbury will typically take 3 years to complete.
