Hi people,
This is a note giving you early access to an ARToolKit release. This
version is numbered 2.68.
Version 2.68's main changes since 2.65 are for users on the Mac OS X
platform. The Mac video capture library has been completely rewritten
for much better performance, especially when using multiple cameras.
As part of these changes, this release incorporates basic support for
pixel formats using subsampled YCbCr colour spaces.
The other noticeable addition, which will be of benefit to users on
all platforms, is the inclusion of a new library, ARgsub_lite. This
is a stripped-back and performance-enhanced version of the ARgsub
library, which has been designed to allow much easier integration of
ARToolKit into existing projects, by removing all dependencies on
GLUT. A new sample program called "simpleLite" demonstrating usage is
included. HTML documentation for ARgsub_lite is also included in the
doc/ directory. We have been happily using gsub_lite in a number of
projects here at the HIT Lab NZ and believe you'll like it too.
At this stage, the release should be considered beta; as bugs come
up, please post them here.
The release is available in two formats, either .zip archive (2.5 MB)
or .tar.gz archive (0.2 MB). The code in the two archive formats is
the same, however the .tar.gz archive includes no Windows project
files or binaries, which lightens the load for Unix types who don't
need the Windows stuff.
The release and the full read me is available at

An "official" release will follow at some stage, on the main
ARToolKit site http://www.hitl.washington.edu/artoolkit/
