I think DART would be the best way to quickly prototype such an =
application.
Another cool thing is Catomir from the AMIRE people. Sorry I don't have =
a
URL, are you out there Michael? If it does what you need, it might =
provide
a more simple approach as it is specifically designed to be a blank ar
application that you load models and markers into, then join the boxes =
to
set up behaviours etc.
Dart is more flexible I think, because it leverages a highly established
environment that a lot of designers already know how to use really well. =
If
you find some eager young Director Lingo coders, you could theoretically
make it do anything.
My bet is that the next year will bring a stable and versatile DART, =
just in
time for another cycle of Moore's Law and hopefully some better (or at =
least
cheaper) cameras - and... Maybe a HMD that doesn't hurt your eyes after =
a
few minutes. If the user base picks up at the current rate of interest, =
a
pretty lively AR culture will emerge.

Thanks Blair. We were looking for an approach to rendering AR like =
DART.
We just completed a project developing AR scenes for training an =
aviation
maintenance task with ARToolKit. With our next iteration, we plan on =
going
mobile by taking it to the flight line. We have a multidisciplinary =
team
and will focus on the training aspects of using AR in real work
environments. v/r Dan

Dan,
Please check out DART, our AR toolkit built into Director.
http://www.gvu.gatech.edu/dart
We just release a first "beta" ... it still has some bugs (we found a=20
bunch working on a demo last week, and are doing another demo this=20
coming week), but we'll be posting pretty frequent updates for a while.=20
It's largely stable (the aformentioned bugs are in some pretty obscure =
places).
Enjoy, and let me know if it's useful.
