I'm a AR newbie doing some experimental work on ARToolkit. For the sake of completeness,
I hope to understand how the whole camera calibration thing works.
What I understand from all the reading from internet articles suggest that camera calibration establish 3D to 2D relationship in the way --if we put a known 3D coordinate/s then get the 2D coordinate/s then we can get the perspective projection transfromation matrix.This transfromation matrix can then be used to reverse calculate the location of unknown 3D coordinates from known 2D coordinates.
What I do not understand is how camera calibration process put a known 3D coordinate in place. The procedure never say anything like put the calibration grid in some fixed distance from the camera so how does everything link together?(I do not know whether this problem is caused by me missing some of the finer details in the documentation.If this is the case, please enlighten me )
