Not really a generic interface for accessing webcams but maybe
helpful. My project called libTAP is playing well with AR Toolkit,
released under LGPL and it provides at least a unified interface for
DirectShow, Carnegie-Mellon University FireWire Driver, GStreamer
Pipeline (early buggy stuff) and directly interfacing Video4Linux. I
have not yet taken a look into Mac 's QuickTime because I just have
occasionally access to some Macs.
Here a short snippet how to handle video capture with the Lua
interface (its very close to the C++ API)
