Folks,
I know a number of you are interested in having alternative video
libraries. We've made our video capture libraries open source and
put them on sourceforge.
The interesting (key) part of this library is that (for the windows
version) if an application builds against the videowrapper library,
you can add/update/change video api backends without recompiling (we
dynamically load wrappers for other api's). So, if you need to use
PointGrey cameras on one machine and DirectShow on another, or if
someone writes a new driver, you don't need to recompile.
(On the mac, all cameras use the Quicktime API, so we don't currently
do dynamic loading; I would like to change this so folks could write
low level drivers for cameras if they want).
Our hope is that this will be useful, and other folks will contribute
back. If you'd like to work on this with us, please let me know.
We've already got support for a variety of camera APIs.
Enjoy!
