Hello,
exact this topic of advertisment insertion in real-time was my diploma
thesis I finished some weeks ago. As soon as it is rated at my university
I will be able to give a link for you (will be listed under
www.augmented.org). But I did not use ARToolkit. Well, I could use it,
since Tracking is done independently.
But:
I didn't find ARToolkit so accurate for a scenario in a stadium... How big
are the markers you want to put inside the stadium? And how many? Could
get annoying. What kind of video signal do you get? Interlaced PAL/NTSC?
Perhaps it can be wise to use ARToolkit as a base package (because it
already provides you with 3D Renderings and Video Overlay...) - but to do
the tracking in some other way. If you have a fixed cam, a preset position
could even be the best. First approaches for augmentation of sport games
(one leader in this field is the company ORAD) did it this way: the
"overview" cam of the sport's field, LOCKED-OFF, was augmented. It was not
moving. Easy to track of course. ;) In that case you could also make use
of difference images to get occlusions for players. I also discuss this in
my paper.
Well, what do others think of usage of the latest ARToolkit-TRACKING-PART
for this field of use? Didn't use ARToolkit for one year and a half.
Greetings,
Toby.
