W. Jong Yoon

Jong completed a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering at Hong Ik University, Seoul, Korea before coming to Seattle to conduct a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington. Jong completed his Masters degree in 2004 and is now pursuing a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering.

Prior to joining grad school in the USA, Jong worked as a Research Engineer in the Information & Optical Device division at Samsung Electro-Mechanics in Suwon, Korea. His work included the design of high speed (30,000RPM) miniature motors used for cellular phone auto-folding systems and 2.5/3.5/3.0 Hard Disk/Zip Drive spindle motors.

Jong's research interests are the design of biomedical devices, developing micro/meso scale actuators, and smart materials. Within the Lab Jong is working on the engineering study of an endoscope design.

Through his work in the HIT Lab Jong seeks to become an independent and inventive PhD in Biomedical/Mechanical engineering field to design and implement high-tech solutions for outstanding problems of people in need.

Outside the Lab Jong enjoys learning foreign languages such as Japanese. He is also furthering his English and has been recognized as a Competent Toastmaster (CTM) at the UW Toastmasters club. Jong also enjoys spending time with his lovely daughter Hannah.
