Virtual Edmonds Model

Introduction

The Virtual Edmonds Project is a collaborative project between the City of Edmonds and the Community and Environmental Design and Simulation Lab, CEDeS Lab, at the University of Washington under the direct sponsorship of the College of Architecture and Urban Design, CAUP, and the Human Interface Technology Lab, HIT Lab. This project involves the construction of a three-dimensional computer model of down-town Edmonds which can be simulated in real-time.

In February of 1998, students of the Virtual Environments class in the Department of Architecture began construction of the base model for Virtual Edmonds. This initial phase of the project included a presentation of the city model to city officials and to city council in June of 1998.

Currently phase II of the Virtual Edmonds project is under way, which involves the addition of two proposed building projects in the downtown area of Edmonds. Once added to the model these projects can be viewed by city officials, building professionals and interested citizens with the intention of helping the planning process.
