Building Virtual Worlds -- Overview

A Case Study in Building Global Warming World

Building Virtual Worlds can be described as a four step process. We call the four steps: Planning, Building, Programming, and Experiencing. All four steps can be worked on at the same time and should be revisited based on feedback from the other steps. In a nutshell, the process entails:

  1. Planning the educational goals, world objects and interactions, and world building responsibilities and roles.
  2. Modeling the objects to be used in the virtual world, including creating object textures.
  3. Programming the behaviors for each object in the world
  4. Experiencing the world and getting feedback from participants.

We will now take you through the basics of each step by reviewing the process of creating Global Warming World.
