Chapter 5 - Conclusions
5.1 Overview
We have examined various application domains, evaluated many of the
existing multi-user systems, and developed a prototype to explore the integration
of communication control methods into GreenSpace.
Through this research we have determined an intuitive and efficient
approach for facilitating scalable interpersonal communication within the
GreenSpace system. Variations of the spatial culling approach have been widely
used in other systems for a variety of applications and have been shown to be
adaptable to the GreenSpace software environment through an exploratory
prototype.
5.2 Future Work
The ideal size for communication cells within various application domains
should be experimentally determined.
A full implementation of the COMIC spatial model, coupled with the spatial
partioning and assignment of multicast groups within GreenSpace would be a
useful addition for many applications.
