Bill Poirier Cyberscope - Press Release On 14 Mar 1994 15:00:29 GMT The Whole Earth 'Lectronic Link, Sausalito, CA Newsgroups: sci.virtual-worlds FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Cyberscope Becomes Desktop VR Industry Standard The Cyberscope, the revolutionary new affordable stereoscopic viewing system for home computers, has already become the desktop virtual reality industry's standard 3D output peripheral. Since its release last year, the $199 Cyberscope has been warmly embraced by software developers of all stripes, who are invariably amazed by the Cyberscope's full color high resolution 3D images. They are also astonished by how trivial it can be to make their existing software Cyberscope-compatible. Although current applications run the gamut from animation to X-ray analysis, the virtual reality industry has been the most responsive thus far. Recently, the VIRTUS Corporation announced plans to introduce Cyberscope support into the next version of their VIRTUS VR package. Although all other major desktop VR vendors have already made the same decision-including VREAM, Sense8, Dimension International, and Virtual Reality Labs-the announcement is significant as the Edinburgh, North Carolina-based VIRTUS Corp. is the largest supplier of VR walkthrough software. Their decision has firmly established the Cyberscope's place as the industry standard. Other applications that have recently been converted to run with the Cyberscope include: -REND386, the well-known 3D virtual world shareware that inspired The Waite Group's recently published "Virtual Reality Creations" book. -Vistapro 3.1, the long-awaited CD-ROM version of the renowned landscape flythrough software from Virtual Reality Laboratories, Inc. of San Luis Obispo, CA. -MicroStation from Intergraph, the largest CAD/CAM company in the US (via the "CyberVision" add-on software from Huntsville AL-based ModelVision, Inc.) -3D Workshop, the rendering and animation brainchild of LucasFilm's Paul LaFevre. -The Mac version of CyberSmash, Simsalabim Systems' popular 3D breakout game. -The StereoScopic Showcase, a Cyberscope "playhouse" that includes an arcade game, 3D photos and 3D animation, from MicroMind, Inc. of New York, New York. You can download a free demo of the Cyberscope and some supporting software (requires IBM PC-compatible 386 or better with mouse and SVGA card.
