Division Announces Support for High-End VR
on Onyx InfiniteReality Supercomputer

Teaming of dVS/dVISE and InfiniteReality Will Open New VR Markets

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., January 22, 1995 -- Division Limited today 
announced versions of its industry-leading virtual reality (VR)
software for  Silicon Graphics' new Onyx(r) InfiniteReality(tm)
supercomputer, also announced  today.  Immediately available for the
Onyx InfiniteReality supercomputer are  dVISE, an interactive
authoring tool that allows non-programmers to develop  complex
virtual worlds, and dVS, a distributed VR run-time environment.

"The availability of dVISE and dVS for the InfiniteReality platform
will add a new level of interactivity and image fidelity to complex VR
environments with multiple users," says Charles Grimsdale, CEO of
Division Inc. "The latest versions of dVISE and dVS will support all
the new features of InfiniteReality.  Both software packages have been
optimized as a part of SGI's advance developer programme to leverage
InfiniteReality's performance and feature set enhancements."

Here are a few of the ways VR users can benefit from dVISE and dVS on
the InfiniteReality platform:

 VR users will have access to collaborative VR environments that
accommodate more participants, provide faster response time, and offer
richer textures.

 In the automotive industry, the increased polygon performance of
InfiniteReality will make it possible to create virtual reality models
with car bodies that have the same high definition and precision as
the designer's original CAD data. The result will be a better
understanding of the car design, more accurate and rapid prototyping,
and ultimately better car designs.

 For the oil industry, the greater image depth available with
InfiniteReality will mean large oil rigs and complex plants can be
displayed with a sustained refresh rate of 60Hz, making these kinds of
models much more usable.  This will open up a previously inaccessible
market for immersive virtual reality.

 The high-definition textures now possible with InfiniteReality will
make dVISE even more suitable for existing market sectors, such as
modeling airplane interiors, walkthroughs of complex urban scenes, and
collaborative, multi-user design reviews of detailed engineering
designs. Textures will now appear accurate and realistic both close-up
and far away, leading to more realistic scenes.

Grimsdale adds: "The price/performance of InfiniteReality running
dVISE and dVS, combined with the new high-definition head-mounted
displays we've recently started shipping, will open up new markets at
the high end of virtual reality."
