POLHEMUS ANNOUNCES THE FIRST VR TRACKER UNDER $1,000

San Jose, CA:
Today, at "VR WORLD '95" here, Polhemus shook-up the VR industry
with the announcement of a dramatic new price point for 6 DoF
trackers. The company announced that effective May 24, 1995 the
INSIDETRAK would have a list price of $999. This widely used
tracker previously had a list price of $2,250. This new price
makes INSIDETRAK the first true 6 Degree-of-Freedom tracker to be
priced under $1,000.

Polhemus is the pioneer in 3D position/orientation sensing
devices, commonly called trackers. The company has been in
business for over 25 years and holds many patents on the
technology used in this area. Polhemus devices are in most of the
VR systems sold throughout the world. INSIDETRAK is a tracker on
a PC board that plugs into an ISA slot in any computer. The
system can support up to two "receivers". These receivers tell
the computer where the individual using the VR system is looking,
and/or, in which direction they would like to move. When
INSIDETRAK was introduced two years ago, the industry quickly
adapted it as the standard.

Philip G. Cooper, President of Polhemus, said "This is the next
phase of Polhemus' commitment to maintaining its leadership
position in the VR industry. The tremendous success of the
INSIDETRAK has allowed us to reduce our costs and we have
decided to pass these savings on to our customers." Mr. Cooper
went on to say "Polhemus believes that the VR industry is on the
verge of extraordinary growth and that lowering total system cost
is key to that success. We feel it is our obligation as the
industry leader to do whatever we can to help our customers bring
down those costs."

INSIDETRAK is a proven product that has been shipping in volume
for two years. It uses Polhemus' patented low-frequency magnetic
transducing technology, so there is no need to worry about
maintaining a clear line-of-sight between receiver and transmit-

ter. Polhemus has eliminated the problem of signal blocking and
interference that distort other devices. The basic configuration
includes a standard transmitter and one receiver, and lists for
$999. A second receiver can be ordered for $250. If the applica
tion requires a large working area, the amazing LONG RANGER
transmitter can be ordered as an option. When combined with
INSIDETRAK, LONG RANGER provides a working area of more than 908
sq ft.
