The IFIP TC 5 WG 5.10 Workshop on VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENTS
presents a high-qualIty international forum for
virtual environments and its applications that will
bring together researchers and practitioners for a
two day program.

In the scientific world there has been a consider-
able effort at developing richer interactive systems.
Independently of the application domain, there has
been a common goal of creating more convincing
representations of reality. Understanding the value
of complete interactive representations of reality has
led to the development of 3D graphic systems that
allows the user to explore a 3D design space visu-
ally.

Virtual Environments can be identified as the ul-
timate form of interaction between human and ma-
chine.

In a Virtual Environment the computer system
provides sensorial feedback that responds to "visitor"
movements with sights and sounds designed to cre-
ate the illusion that the "participant" is immersed in a
real world.

The goal is to allow full-body participation in
computer events that are so compelling that they
would be accepted as a real experience.
