Deadline for Submission April 28, 1995

August 2-4, 1995

SAN FRANCISCO AIRPORT
MARRIOTT HOTEL

Introduction
For the past ten years, CSUN's CENTER ON DISABILITIES has conducted
the conference, "Technology and Persons with Disabilities," which
draws more than 2,200 persons from 25 foreign countries, 300
speakers and 140 exhibitors to Los Angeles each March. Because of
a growing interest in Virtual Reality, the CENTER ON DISABILITIES
sponsored the first annual "Virtual Reality and Persons with
Disabilities" conference in San Francisco in June of 1993 and a
second conference in 1994. Each of these drew more than 300 persons
from around the world.

This is a "Call for Participation" for the Third Annual,
International Conference, "Virtual Reality and Persons with
Disabilities," to be held August 2-4, 1995 at the San Francisco
Airport Marriott Hotel.

The subject matter of this forum lies at the intersection of two
communities: the community of persons with disabilities, and the
Virtual Reality technology community. The primary objective,
therefore, is to bring together these two communities in order to
share results of research, development, and commercialization in
this field. Another objective is to create a peer-reviewed archive
by means of a Proceedings, and to disseminate this information
widely. These objectives will be archived through tutorials,
technical sessions, panels, demonstrations, and exhibits.

Topics of Interest

Papers should address these major areas of interest:

  * Technical aspects of Virtual Reality

  * Policy issues surrounding Virtual Reality and disability

  * Current and future access issues

  * Applications of Virtual Reality that will benefit persons with
    disabilities

  * Employment opportunities for persons with disabilities
    in the Virtual Reality field

A limited number of copies of the PROCEEDINGS of the 1993 and 1994
conferences, "Technology and Persons with Disabilities," are
available in electronic format. For further information contact:

CONDITIONS OF PRESENTATION

(a) The title of the paper must be succinct and descriptive of the
content of the actual presentation.

(b) All presentations for the regular conference sessions of August
2-4 are within the selected one hour window. Within this period,
please allow time for questions and answers. It is expressly
understood that the paper may be scheduled at anytime on any of the
conference days at the discretion of the conference organizer. We
will do our best to honor a speaker's preference for a particular
time slot.

(c) Authors submit a 25 word summary of their presentation to be
used in the Program (See Proposal Form). It is very important that
this be descriptive of the content of the presentation. The title
and this brief summary is all that is printed and all that the
participants have to go on as they consider which sessions to
attend. Our experience is that participants regret having selected
sessions where the description is not consistent with the content
of the session.

(d) In addition to the summary, an abstract not exceeding 200 words
must be submitted along with the proposal form. This is considered
by a panel of reviewers and is critical in determining the quality
of the presentation. Please do not submit more than a 200 word
abstract.

(e) The discounted preregistration fee for speakers is $195
(regular preregistration is $295) if payment in full (or purchase
order) is received at CSUN not later than June 30, 1995. Late
speaker registrations (after June 30) are $245.
(f) Each and every speaker and panelist, including exhibitors who
are also making presentations, pay the speaker's fee, even if in
attendance only for one day.

(g) Payment of an additional fee of $195 if the presenter wishes to
attend the "Preconference Day" of Wednesday, August 2, 1995.

(h) "Acceptance" of a paper is defined as (1) official notification
on our part on or about May 1,1995 (2) payment of a discounted
preregistration fee of $195 by June 30 (or late fee of $245 after
June 30, 1995) and (3) finalization of equipment needs on your part
not later than June 30, 1995. Any equipment changes after June 30
are the responsibility of the presenter(s).

(i) It is very important to differentiate between authorship and
those who are actually attending and presenting at the conference.
Please take special care to note this on the Proposal Form. On the
proposal form, please list those persons who are actually attending
and presenting. You may note the appropriate authorship on your
manuscript. The appropriate authorship is recognized in the
Proceedings of the conference which is compiled and offered for
sale. All those listed as conference speakers will be billed for
the discounted speaker's fee.

(j) The primary author of each paper receives one complimentary
electronic copy of the Proceedings of the conference.

(k) The author(s) agree to submit an original electronic AND hard
copy manuscript of not more than 5 pages (including all references,
charts, diagrams, etc.) for possible publication not later than
June 30, 1995. Guidelines for papers will be given in official
notification of paper acceptance. Only papers of high quality will
be published in the PROCEEDINGS.

(l) It is unlikely that we are able to accept multiple submissions
from the same author(s).

(m) The official language of the conference is English.

(n) $50.00 cancellation fee. Failure to attend an activity does not
constitute withdrawal. THE CENTER ON DISABILITIES must be notified
of intent to withdraw in writing. Speakers fees are fully
refundable if cancellation is received by June 30, 1995. After this
date there is a $50 cancellation fee.

(o) Participants may request alternative formats for handouts and
other materials. It is the responsibility of the speakers,
presenters, and panelists to provide these.
