an update for your CompuServe part...
The COMART section is long gone. Delete the reference to it, please.
 Same for the GraphDev area.
Below is a description of some of the current areas. Thanks for goosing me on
this. I need to get a full presentation together for the Meckler Conference.
... Yep, Tracy Swedlow got me to commit to speaking on her panel, even though
the 25th is my wedding anniversary. <g>. Looking forward to meeting you
there!!!!

There are a number of areas on CompuServe (CIS) that would be of interest to
the readers of sci.v-w and the VR community. The largest and most active area
is CyberForum, with 19 different discussion areas on Building Realities, VR
Technology, Gaming and Entertainment, Visual Compuserve (a project to build a
VR interface to CIS), Cyber Arts, NanoTech, Artifical Life, Computers and
Society, etc. The forum also offers a large number of files in its libraries.
These range from fictional stories and art work to source code and virtual
worlds for Mac and PC. There are several regular weekly online conferences
(Chats) scheduled at different times for the convience of our American and
European members.
Other CompuServe forums that have discussion areas on VR include AIExpert
(sponsored by Miller Freeman Magazine - VR Special Report folks), EdResearch
(Educational Research) and the GameDev (Game Developers) Forum. The latter is
home to a number of noted authors and developers. Another area of interest
might be the GraphDev forum, which is still home to the Fractal (FractInt) and
Raytracing (POV Ray) developers.
Aside from the VisCIS effort supported in CyberForum, CompuServe has announced
a pilot project known as Reno, which is based on the Fujitsu (bought from
LucasArts) Habitat system. This 2d graphical MUD-like system will be entering
beta testing this spring (1995).
