Conference: The annual SIGGRAPH conference is the world's largest
annual event devoted to computer graphics and interactive techniques.
Each year, the conference features a high-quality technical program of
papers, panels, and courses, the annual art show, film and video show,
and commercial excibitions, which are always organized to present both
solid foundations and the latest advances in the field. In recent
years, the conference has also featured new events such as emerging
technologies exhibits, an educators' program, and multimedia events.
The conference involves over 200 volunteers who contribute invaluable
time and resources to ensure that the conference will serve the evolving
interests and needs of the computer graphics community. Persons
interested in volunteering are urged to contact the conference planning
committee, cpc@siggraph.org, to express their interest.

Publications: SIGGRAPH publishes the conference proceedings, visual
proceedings, and CD-ROM version of the conference proceedings for our
annual conference each summer. In addition, SIGGRAPH has a relationship
with several other conferences and publishes their proceedings; in the
past, this has included Interactive 3D Computer Graphics, Volume
Visualization, Computational Geometry, User Interface Software and
Technology, Solid Modeling Applications, and Parallel Rendering.

SIGGRAPH publishes four newsletter issues of Computer Graphics each
year, containing tutorial and expository articles in each that describe
current activities and directions in computer graphics and interactive
techniques. For information on submitting articles to the newsletter,
contact Susan B. Mair at mair@siggraph.org.

SIGGRAPH also publishes the SIGGRAPH Video Review, a video publication
that includes computer animations from the annual conference as well as
issues from other ACM conferences and special issues on varied topics,
as well as slide sets from the annual conference and from our ongoing
work to provide materials for computer graphics educators. We are also
developing additional CD-ROM publications from the conference, including
a disk of multimedia examples and a CD-ROM version of the full set of
course notes from the annual conference.

For more complete information on SIGGRAPH publications, send mail to
info.publications@siggraph.org

Education: SIGGRAPH has a strong program of support for computer
graphics instructors and for the use of computer graphics in
instruction. This program includes curriculum information, conference
grants for educators, and participation in a range of conferences
including the annual SIGGRAPH conference. For more information, send
mail to info.education@siggraph.org or to Scott Owen, SIGGRAPH's
Director for Education, at owen@siggraph.org

Locals: SIGGRAPH has a number of active local groups throughout North
America and the rest of the world. These groups allow persons in a
region to get to know each other and to share their interests in
computer graphics and interactive techniques. For a list of active
SIGGRAPH locals or information on how to start a local group, send mail
to info.localgroups@siggraph.org or to Jeff Jortner, SIGGRAPH's Director
for Local Groups, at jortner@siggraph.org

Other conferences: one of the missions of SIGGRAPH is to further the
state of the art in computer graphics and interactive techniques through
a conference program that goes beyond our annual conference. Some of
the conferences we sponsor are listed at the end of this FAQ. For more
information or to propose a conference, contact the SIGGRAPH Vice Chair,
Sylvie Rueff, rueff@siggraph.org

International relations: SIGGRAPH actively works with several
international organizations and events. For more information, contact
the SIGGRAPH Vice Chair, Sylvie Rueff, rueff@siggraph.org

Elections: SIGGRAPH elections are held each spring, and all elected
officers serve two year terms beginning on July 1 of the election year.
The Chair, Vice Chair and Treasurer are elected in odd years, and
Director for Conferences, Director for Communications, Director for
Education, and two Directors at Large are elected in even years. A
slate of candidates for the next election is selected during the annual
conference, or as soon thereafter as possible, by the nominating
committee, which is always open to suggestions for candidates. Petition
candidates, with signatures of 1% of the SIGGRAPH membership, are also
accepted. For more information, contact the SIGGRAPH Past Chair, Judy
Brown, at jbrown@siggraph.org.

Awards: SIGGRAPH sponsors two awards: the semi-annual Steven Anson
Coons Award for outstanding creative contributions to computer graphics,
and the Computer Graphics Achievement Award for a major accomplishment
that provided a quantum step in the state of the art in computer
graphics. These awards are given based on nominations from the graphics
community; to nominate someone or get more information, contact
awards@siggraph.org

Special projects: when possible, SIGGRAPH funds or otherwise supports
new and innovative projects that are of benefit to the SIGGRAPH
membership. For more information, contact the SIGGRAPH Vice Chair,
Sylvie Rueff, rueff@siggraph.org

Section: SIGGRAPH member benefits

SIGGRAPH membership benefits individuals in a number of ways. One of
these is through a number of publications it provides for its members.
We publish four newsletter issues of Computer Graphics each year, with
tutorial and expository articles in each that describe current
activities and directions in the field. From the annual conference we
publish the conference proceedings, one of the world's leading research
publications in computer graphics; the visual proceedings, the record of
the arts and technology areas of the conference; and the proceedings
CD-ROM, an electronic version of the conference proceedings. SIGGRAPH
members also have the opportunity to subscribe to our Member Plus
program and get five additional conference proceedings for a significant
discount, as described above. In addition, SIGGRAPH offers member
discounts on the proceedings of its other conferences, on its slides and
other CD-ROM publications, and on the SIGGRAPH Video Review.

There are, of course, other values in being a SIGGRAPH member.
Membership means that you are identified with the world's leading
professional organization in the field and you support the other SIGGRAPH
work in education, arts and technology, several kinds of conferences,
the online computer graphics bibliography, awards, and other areas. You
also are elegible for reduced prices for registration at SIGGRAPH-
sponsored conferences and for purchases of SIGGRAPH publications.

One of the most important benefits of SIGGRAPH membership is the
opportunity to receive timely and complete information on the annual
SIGGRAPH conference and to participate in this conference at a reduced
cost. This conference is the world's premier event in computer graphics
and interactive techniques. It lets you see the state of the art in
research, hear experts discuss current issues in the field, experience
the most recent works in technology and the arts, examine cutting edge
applications of technology that have not yet left the laboratory, see
the most recent industry products in the field, and meet your peers in
the area who are creating tomorrow.

If you have questions on membership, please contact the SIGGRAPH
Director for Communications, Alyce Kaprow (kaprow@siggraph.org or
+1.617.969.0288)

------------------------------

Section: Joining SIGGRAPH

SIGGRAPH membership categories and prices in U.S. dollars are:

Member category: Regular "Lite" Student regular Student "Lite"
ACM member $59.00 $27.00 $50.00 $18.00
ACM non-member $85.00 $53.00

ACM membership costs $79.00 for full and associate members and $24.00
for student members.

Regular members get both newsletters and conference materials; "Lite"
members get newsletters only, since we intend this membership for
persons who regularly attend the conference and who don't want to get
two copies of conference publications.

SIGGRAPH members can add the SIGGRAPH Member Plus subscription. This
gives subscribers the proceedings of five additional conferences each
year. For 1993 - 1995 the cost of this subscription is $90 per year,
and the proceedings included are ACM Multimedia, User Interface Software
and Technology, Parallel Rendering Symposium (1993) and Volume
Visualization workshop (1994), Computational Geometry, and Graphics
Interface 94 (1994) and Solid Modeling Applications (1995).

Membership forms can be obtained by sending e-mail to acmhelp@acm.org,
by calling ACM Member Services at +1.212.626.0500, or by downloading the

Section: Online SIGGRAPH services

SIGGRAPH has an online system named siggraph.org that we use to
provide a number of services to the computer graphics community. We
keep several kinds of information there where they can be accessed by
gopher, anonymous ftp or an e-mail server, and we use the system as a
contact point for SIGGRAPH volunteers. In this section we describe the
online information and tell how to use the e-mail contact service.

The annual conference Call for Participation, containing a description
of the anticipated program for the next annual SIGGRAPH conference and
giving information on how you can submit materials to the conference,
can be downloaded from the directory conferences/siggraph94/call, where
you will find several versions of each section of the Call.

The SIGGRAPH online bibliography is available by telnet or other remote
login; simply login as user biblio (no password) and you will be
executing the biblook shell that gives you interactive query in the
bibliography. Help is available on the system.

As noted above, the contents and order form for the SIGGRAPH Video
Review are online in the directory publications/video_review.

In addition, we have developed some online electronic publications that
are available through siggraph.org. These include
   * the panels transcripts from the SIGGRAPH 91 conference, which can
     be found in publications/proceedings/siggraph91/panels
   * the May, 1993 online experimental special issue of Computer
Graphics, which can be found in publications/May_93_online

As a resource to contact SIGGRAPH volunteers, siggraph.org acts as a
mail forwarder. If you know the volunteer's name, you can reach her or
him through the alias lastname@siggraph.org or, in case of duplicate
last names, through the alias firstname_lastname@siggraph.org . If you
only know the volunteer's office, you can use officename@siggraph.org
(for example, chair@siggraph.org).

How can I register for the Conference?

The registration deadline to receive discounted registration fees is Friday,
June 17. Forms must be postmarked by this date in order to qualify for the
reduced fees.

Registration forms, obtained from either the advance announcement or advance
program, must be accompanied with full payment before the form can be
processed. Acceptable forms of payment are Company Checks, Personal Checks,
Money Orders, American Express, MasterCard and Visa. Your registration form
should be sent directly to SIGGRAPH 94 at the address shown on the
registration form. If paying by credit card, your registration form
can be faxed directly to the conference management office at 312/321.6876.
If you are faxing your registration form, to avoid duplicate billing, do not
also mail a hard copy. Please note that around the early registration cutoff
date, the fax volume is extraordinary. If you wait until this date to attempt
to fax your registration form, you may experience difficulty getting your fax
through. SIGGRAPH 94 is not responsible for forms received after the cutoff
date due to busy phone lines.

Also, if faxing your registration form in time to receive the early
registration fees, it is recommended that you keep a copy of the fax
transmission showing your form went through. In the event of a problem,
the fax transmission will be accepted as proof of early submission and
early rates will be honored.

How Can I Cancel my Registration to SIGGRAPH 94?

All cancellation requests must be received in writing...no cancellations are
accepted via the telephone. Refund requests must be postmarked on or before
Tuesday, July 5. All cancellations are subject to a $50 processing fee.

Although no cancellations are accepted if postmarked after July 5, we do
allow substitutions for the original attendee at any time. We ask that a
letter be submitted on company letterhead either in advance or presented
on-site. If the new attendee changes the registration category resulting
in a lower registration fee, no refund will be made if after the refund
cancellation date. If the new attendee changes the registration category
resulting in a higher registration fee, the original payment will be
applied against the new fee.

Will I be Refunded if I Can't Get in the Course of My Choice?

New in 1994 is a pricing structure that allows for attendees to pay one fee
and attend as many courses as they'd like. There is no longer an option to
select a specific course and pay for that course only. If there is only one
particular course you are interested in, we would encourage you to arrive at
this course early to guarantee admission. Refunds will not be given after
the registration cancellation date.

Can I Purchase Merchandise if I'm not Attending the Conference?

All SIGGRAPH 94 merchandise, except printed course notes, must be picked up
at the convention center during the conference. Attendees may order printed
course notes and pay a nominal shipping fee to have the printed version of
the course notes shipped to them. Shipments are accepted only to addresses
in the Continental USA.

Slide sets, Conference Proceedings, Visual Proceedings, and Conference
and Multimedia CD-ROMs are available by contacting ACM Member Services,
1515 Broadway, 17th Floor, New York, NY 21264 USA, 800.342.6626 (USA Toll

Can I Purchase Extra Electronic Theater Tickets?

Electronic Theater tickets for all shows will go on sale when registration
opens on Sunday, July 24. If your preferred evening is sold out, it is also a
good idea to check at the door of the Electronic Theater. Typically we have a
minimal number of tickets turned back to us from exhibitors that we can offer
for sale prior to the start of the event.

How do I Make Hotel Reservations?

You can either fax or mail the housing form from the advance announcement or
advance program to ATI Travel Management, 401 North Michigan Avenue, Chicago
IL 60611-4267 USA, 312/644-6369 (fax). If you prefer, you can also email the
appropriate information from this form to travel.s94@siggraph.org.

How Can I Contribute to Conference Activities?

There is still time to contribute to a number of the SIGGRAPH 94 venues
including the Technical Sketches, the Art and Design Show, the Electronic
Theater, the Edge, SIGKids, Slide Sets, Multimedia CD-ROM, and Student
Volunteers. Deadlines for papers, panels, and SIGGRAPH 94 courses have now

appropriate deadline dates. If you're not attending the conference, you can
contact prsba@siggraph.org to request a copy of the 1995 Call for
Participation, or you can get a copy of it electronically from siggrapg.org
after SIGGRAPH 94.

Does SIGGRAPH Offer Child Care?

SIGGRAPH 94 will be contracting a licensed and bonded child care
agency to provide professional child care for attendees'
families. Costs and schedules for child care services have not yet
been determined. Complete information will be available in April. To
be sure information is mailed to you, you can contact conference
management at 312/321.6830; or by email your name/address information
to conference management at siggraph94@siggraph.org.
