I can't answer your questions Van, but I thought you might like to know that
you're probably better of posting questions like this to the sgi groups (this
applised to all readers).

Said groups have many readers & posters who are actually from SGI and you are
bound to get plenty of accurate info by posting your questions to the misc and
hardware groups. The SGI groups are:

  comp.sys.sgi.admin
  comp.sys.sgi.announce 
  comp.sys.sgi.apps
  comp.sys.sgi.bugs
  comp.sys.sgi.graphics
  comp.sys.sgi.hardware
  comp.sys.sgi.misc
  comp.sys.sgi.audio

No doubt there are SGI folk who read sci.virtual-worlds, but I figure you'd
get a better response in c.s.s.misc & c.s.s.hardware.

Oh, there are similar groups for other kinds of workstations: SUN, etc.

You might also get some info from SGI's web servers. The main one is at:
