Subject: Network Protocols for Virtual Worlds

I've been reading about how once VR gets to be commercial reality it will
be distributed, and heavily dependent on the client/server paradigm.
I'm interested in Op. Systems and Networking, and eventually I can see
an integration of VR technology into an operating system (like what
the XEROX PARC machines and the Macintosh did for graphics).

What I want to know, however, is if there are any defined network protocols
for VR systems. Also, have any of these been implemented? This could make
for some interesting research when I start grad. school this fall.

Please direct all responses to the newsgroup, or to "danmcd@cs.arizona.edu".
IBM doesn't take too kindly to overusing the Internet mail gateway. I can
read the newsgroup here at IBM, but I'd prefer to read mail on my new
U. of A. account. Thanks.

Bob, you can clip the last paragraph if you wish. I don't want to be swamped
with SMTP mailings here at work. 1984 may be 7 years into history, but Big
Brother still lives.... and he works here!
