Subj: Best format for public domain virtual objects

Hi folks,

	I have a question:

Suppose I wanted to create some public domain virtual objects for
use by anyone building a virtual world...

For example, suppose I created a nifty surface model of a suit of
armor, so that any VR researcher could get a copy of it and insert it into
his or her virtual world.

    *	What would be my best choice of 3D file formats, and why?

Maybe I shouldn't use the word "best", because there will be several
answers to this question. By "best", I really mean:
	- useable by a large number of VR-type people
	- createable using a commonly available computer (IBM,Mac,Amiga...)
as opposed to a very expensive machine I can't get access to.

Thanks in advance for your input,
