Will Overington mistakenly interprets my comments regarding virtual worlds
as a recommendation for the use of "helmet-mounted displays." Heaven forfend!
Helmets are a terrible ergonomic system for any use. I used the term,
"head-mounted displays," to indicate a visual system coupled with the
movement of the head. We can differ on the utility of various displays,
Will, but don't burden the discussion with helmets! Ouch. :-)

As to the creation of a second newsgroup devoted to "soft" solutions to
virtual environments, let's have more discussion on this point. It's a
novel idea but I wonder if there's enough substance to power a group...and
then where does it reintegrate with the mainstream?

The "GLOBAL INITIATIVE" piece was really directed at another substantive
issue, how we are to come to some sort of general understanding about the
style and pace of research in our field. I would appreciate it if we can
keep that discussion on track, as I posted it with a certain purpose in
mind. Replies to Will's ideas will be threaded separately. Thanks.
