After forcing myself to plow through all of the messages currently held in
this sub, I found myself wondering about the future of Virtual reality. After
reading many books on the subject, all of them fiction, I figured that this
would be a good thing to have in our society. However, when I start to look
for it, I find nothing more than Nintendo game pieces and Sega 3-d glasses.
I did not see one entry about neural interface. It may be my fault entirely
for not looking in the right place but I figure that this will be the future
in virtual reality after we outgrow the Nintendo toys. If anyone can give me
any sort of indication as to where it is that I should look, then please do so.

[MODERATOR'S NOTE: Dear x, this is old news here. We had a long discussion
on the neural interface, the plug into the brain, when the newsgroup started
out. As we discovered, no one could produce evidence that neural interfaces
will be practical, even on an experimental basis, within the lifetimes of
anybody now using this newsgroup. So we decided, collectively, to encourage
the posting here of information pertaining to hard research toward the neural
interface; and to request that more speculative philosophy be sent to alt.
cyberspace or alt.cyber-punk. (Do those newsgroups still exist? We can't
get them at the UW.) Alternatively, you might check out bionet.neuroscience
for even more rigorous discussions of neuroscientific activity pertaining to
the neural net. For now, the only microsofts available are those that come
in a red and grey box, with a cellophane rapper. -- Bob Jacobson]
