As an employee of Evans & Sutherland Greg Alt has daily access to
graphics workstations (ESV Series) that make an SGI IRIS look little
better than a PC. These machines can do realtime animation in 24 bit
quad-buffered stereo in multiple windows. But he thinks, and I agree,
that useful work can be done on low cost computers.

If you have useful information to contribute, contribute it. But why
waste time criticizing other people for spending their own time and
money doing something they think is valuable?
