NEW VIRTUAL REALITY-BASED ENTERTAINMENT
EXPERIENCES WILL DEBUT AT SIGGRAPH '95

Immersive Music, Video Experiences Created Using New 'Tools For
Virtual Worlds' Shown In Soundscapes Entertainment Project, A Part of
Interactive Entertainment Hall

Menlo Park, Calif. -- August 2, 1995 -- Technologies that provide
artists and entertainers with tools for incorporating virtual reality
into creative works will be demonstrated by Fakespace Music in the
Interactive Entertainment Hall (Booth E-15) at Siggraph '95, from
August 6 - 11. Produced by Fakespace to demonstrate how Virtual
Reality can fulfill its promise as a tool for aesthetic expression and
entertainment, the Soundscapes Entertainment Project illustrates the
potential of two new products, the SoundSculpt Toolkit and Third
Dimension Video.

The SoundSculpt Toolkit links the worlds of music and virtual reality
to create unique audio/visual experiences. Third Dimension Video adds
depth to traditional video images using innovative stereoscopic video
techniques. Fakespace Music, an operating group within Fakespace,
Inc., is making both technologies available to producers and artists
in traditional music and emerging electronic entertainment markets.

The SoundSculpt Toolkit extracts cues from recorded music to create
geometry and control object behaviors within a virtual world. Virtual
objects respond in sync with the music, creating a rich, multi-sensory
experience. Using SoundSculpt, which is based on Silicon Graphics (R)
Performer (tm), Christian Greuel created a world called "Vacuii."
This piece is being presented at Siggraph '95, using a Fakespace Boom
3C (tm) high-resolution stereoscopic viewer and Silicon Graphics Onyx
(tm) RealityEngine2 (tm).

"These tools allow directors and designers to develop visually active,
immersive environments that merge three-dimensional models with
sound," said Greuel, a designer with Fakespace Music. "It's like
nothing ever seen before, a music video where the user is completely
immersed and free to explore a world generated by the music."

Examples of Third Dimension Video will be presented using Immersive
Entertainment Kiosks, which are ideal for public venues such as
entertainment centers or record stores. These kiosks combine
high-resolution stereoscopic imagery and stereo audio in ruggedized,
fixed viewing stations.

Members of the media are invited to visit the Soundscapes
Entertainment Project, in Booth E-15 and experience "Surreality" for
themselves. Details on exhibit hours, and production credits, are
listed below.
