From J. Fred Henderson <ijvr@usa.net>

ARE YOU A PROFESSIONAL IN VIRTUAL REALITY, OR
DO YOU ASPIRE TO BE ONE?

If so, then we invite you to have your biography,
including color portrait photo, published FREE OF
CHARGE in the

           DIRECTORY OF VR PROFESSIONALS

THE INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF VIRTUAL REALITY, a
multimedia publication for professions, publishes
quarterly issues. Each issue includes a Windows-
compatible CD-ROM that allows researchers to display
images, videos, and demos of their research projects.
In the future we plan to support other platforms on
the CD-ROM as well as the Internet. The IJVR is
committed to active promotion of the VR profession in
all possible ways, and in this connection we want to
publish the DIRECTORY OF VR PROFESSIONALS on the CD-
ROM that comes with each issue of the journal. At
some point we may publish the directory as a separate
CD-ROM or as a book.
As you may know, there is no professional
organization or even directory that segregates
professionals in VR from related fields such as
computer science, simulation, or electronics. The
closest comprehensive mailing list relates to various
computer graphics conferences. We want to publish a
directory that clearly identifies persons who
consider themselves to be current or future
professionals in VR. This means ALL aspects of VR,
including software, hardware, and aspects related to
education, medicine, psychology, and fine arts, to
name just a few.
Persons who appear in this directory may be
contacted for possible employment, receive
announcements for professional meetings, and receive
advertising related to VR products and publications.
If any of these are of interest to you, you should
consider responding to our offer.
On subsequent pages I have provided detailed
directions for submitting your personal information
for inclusion in the directory. Please submit the
data in computer-readable form and follow the
directions precisely, for our process of adding your
data to the directory is computer automated.

                Richard A. Blade
                Editor-in-Chief

P.S. Let me emphasize to you that there is NO CHARGE
or any other obligation for the inclusion of your
name, photo, and biographical information in the
DIRECTORY OF VR PROFESSIONALS. In particular, you do
NOT have to be a subscriber to THE INTERNATIONAL
JOURNAL OF VIRTUAL REALITY.

DIRECTIONS FOR SUBMITTING YOUR BIOGRAPHY
IN THE DIRECTORY OF VR PROFESSIONALS

We MUST receive your data in computer readable
form, for we expect to use specially prepared
software to extract and insert the data into the
directory. The software looks for each keyword in
capital letters listed below, including the colon, in
the order presented. It then inputs the lines
following the keyword until it reaches the maximum
number of lines or sees a blank line. Begin your
data on the line immediately following each keyword.
You should use capital and lower case letters on
names, addresses, etc. Email addresses should be in
lower case unless your host requires particular
letters be capitalized. In addresses, particularly
international addresses, please express the address
using separate lines EXACTLY as you want the address
to appear on a mailing label, as you will be
receiving mail using such labels. We will not
separate items delimited by commas on the same line
of your submitted data.
You may mail us a floppy disk in ASCII format
(usually labelled a .TXT file by a word processor) to
the editorial office, or upload your ASCII file onto
our ftp site on the Internet. The host is usa.net.
Use anonymous to log on, and use your email address
as your password. Go to the directory called users
and then to the directory called ijvr. The usual
text based command to transfer the file from your
computer to our ftp site is then put
yourfilename.ext. You may name the file anything you
like as long as the filename does not duplicate any
others there, but make the file extension .VRD so we
can identify it as data for the directory.
Duplicate the words in capitals EXACTLY as shown
below along with the colons. The instructions in the
parentheses following the colons should not be
included, but will be eliminated by our software
automatically if you include them before your data
entries. Do not indent any of your data except
(possibly) for the beginning of paragraphs in the
narrative. Lines may be up to 80 characters long,
and each should be followed by a (hard) line break.
(Some ASCII output filters from word processors
remove "soft" line breaks. There is no need to
justify lines, and any hyphens in your entries will
remain hyphens in the directory. Our software will
automatically format the data in other ways. Below
is a submission form with directions. Below that
is a sample form filled out. You may delete the data
on that sample form and replace it with your own data.
At the very end I include subscription information for
the IJVR.
