                       Call for Participation

             The EUROGRAPHICS '96 International Conference
GRAPHICS - VIRTUAL REALITY - GRAPHICS HIGHWAYS

           Futuroscope Poitiers - France - August 26-30, 1996
                        Organized by INRIA

                      http://www.inria.fr/eg96

============================================================================

PRESENTATION OF THE CONFERENCE
******************************

The Eurographics Association is continuing to make exciting changes to
the format of its annual event, which has now been further developed.
In addition to including the traditional European Computer Graphics
conference, the event now further emphasizes two rapidly evolving, hot
topics related to Computer Graphics, giving in effect three
independent, but related, conferences run in parallel. In 1996, the
additional conferences will be dedicated to Virtual Reality and to
Graphics Highways (i.e. Computer Graphics and Information Highways).

The EUROGRAPHICS'96 event should therefore be considered as three
conferences, but with an unified organisation allowing participation
at selected parts of three independent streams of presentation:
"Computer Graphics", "Virtual Reality", "Graphics Highways". Each
conference includes tutorials, research papers, state of the art
reports, panels, research laboratory presentations, industrial
seminars, and demonstrations. Special care will also be given to the
connections among these topics.

Highlighting research and industry during the same conference is the
main purpose of this unique event, offering various presentations,
more research, more development, and more application oriented. The
scope of the conference will meet the requirements of a large public,
thus stimulating discussions and exchanges between all the actors of
these exciting topics.

Submitted presentations: research papers, STARs, panels, tutorials,
lab. presentations , industrial seminars, demonstrations, slide,
video, www are invited. Any application, exhibiting novelty and interest,
is welcome. The following list of suggested topics is given as a guide and
should not be viewed as restrictive:

Computer Graphics:
-----------------
   Fundamental graphics algorithms
Mathematical foundations, computational geometry, discrete geometry
   Graphics software and standards
   Geometric modelling
   Curve and surface modelling
   Animation, physical modelling
   High-quality rendering, ray tracing, radiosity
   Illumination and optical modelling
   Colour, texture and antialiasing
Interactive systems and graphical user interfaces
   Hardware and parallel architectures
   Application case studies
   Scientific visualisation
   Object-oriented technology
   Multi-modal interaction techniques

Virtual Reality:
---------------
   Virtual environments
   VR interaction and navigation techniques
   Software architectures for VR
   Realtime simulation, interaction and visualisation
   VR input and output devices
   Augmented reality

Graphics Highways:
-----------------
   Distributed graphics, distributed VR systems
   Distributed media services
Computer supported communication and cooperative working (CSCW)
   Graphics and WWW
   Telepresence and -working

TUTORIALS
*********
The first two days will be devoted to Tutorials given by renowned
experts. The tutorials will be targeted at both introductory and
advanced levels, offering cost-effective training in areas of
Computer Graphics, Virtual Reality and Graphics Highways.

Proposals for tutorials in the fields of each stream or in joined
streams are welcome. Prospective tutorial speakers should
be prepared to lecture for 5 hours, and to provide notes for
the tutorial attendees. Please contact the Tutorials Chairs or
the conference secretariat before October 6, 1995.

The Tutorials Chairs will make their selection, based on any
proposals received and personal approaches.

RESEARCH PAPERS
***************
Research and Application Papers will form the heart of the programme
of the conference. Researchers, developers and users of advanced
graphics technology will identify the most challenging issues in Computer
Graphics, Virtual Reality and Graphics Highways, and will propose
innovative solutions. All accepted papers will be presented at the
conference, and published in the conference proceedings as a special
issue of the international journal "Computer Graphics Forum".

We encourage you to submit original, unpublished work in
any of the conference themes listed above. Keep in mind
that the quality of the technical programme and the
distribution of the various themes directly reflect those of the
submitted papers. Therefore if you want a particular topic to
be well represented at Eurographics'96, submitting a paper
is your best option!

Detailed instructions are available on http://www.inria.fr/eg96 . For
additional information, please contact the Programme Committee chairs
or the conference secretariat.

STATE OF THE ART REPORTS AND PANELS
***********************************
State of the Art (STAR) reports and Panels will be presented in each
of the three streams in addition to the paper sessions. The STAR
reports will describe the current state of affairs in contemporary
research and application areas and will be presented by leading
specialists of the field. Panels will provide forums for discussions
on emerging technologies or, sharing viewpoints on any topic related
to one of the three streams.

We welcome detailed proposals for STAR reports and panels in the
fields of each stream, as well as additional topics. Please contact
the Stream Coordinators or the conference secretariat before January 17, 1996.

RESEARCH LABORATORY PRESENTATIONS
*********************************
Lab presentations are intended to highlight the main research
activities of the lab. In particular, the presentations should outline
significant recent results, accomplishments, collaborations, and
applications as well as perspectives of the lab The goal of these
presentations is to improve the dissemination of the research
activities of each lab, both in the research and in the industrial
communities, consequently boosting collaborations.

Lab presentations are intended to highlight the main research
activities of the lab In particular, the presentations
should outline significant recent results, accomplishments,
collaborations, and applications as well as perspectives of
the lab. Participation in the Lab Presentations will be
restricted to European laboratories. Labs that focus on one
or several themes of the conference are invited to highlight
their recent work. Please, contact the Lab. Presentations
Chairs or the conference secretariat
before April 19, 1996 (free format, 10 pages maximum).

INDUSTRIAL SEMINARS
*******************
Industrial Seminars presenting products, developments strategies or
open problems from a technical point of view will also be part of the
technical programme. In a domain where research and development are
working more closely with the marketplace, these industrial seminars are
intended to improve dissemination of SME's activities and stimulate
collaborations.

Proposals for industrial seminars are welcome. Please
contact the Streams Coordinators or the conference
secretariat before January 17, 1996.

DEMONSTRATIONS
**************
Demonstrations will present both invited existing professional
applications as well as experimental systems proposed by developers.

If you would like to demonstrate your work in one of the
three conference streams, you can submit a two page
abstract to the Stream Coordinators or the conference
secretariat by April 19, 1996.

EXHIBITION
**********
An Exhibition will be organised for industrial companies to exhibit
their products and services in the areas of Computer Graphics,
Virtual Reality and Graphics Highways. Local, national and
international companies and organisations will be represented and
will be demonstrating state of the art products and techniques.
The exhibition will also contain an extensive display of books and
journals from international publishers. This will be open to the
public as well as being fully integrated with the conference.
The exhibition, the only event of this kind in Europe, fosters a
close accord between the research and development community and
the world's leading suppliers of products and services.

Display space is strictly limited and potential exhibitors
should secure their place in advance by contacting the
Exhibition Chairs or the conference secretariat .

SLIDES, VIDEOS AND WWW COMPETITIONS
***********************************
Eurographics'96 will host Slides, Videos and WWW competitions to
reward the most innovative use of computer graphics technology in three
media: Slides, Video and World Wide Web. The best submissions will be selected
by an international jury.

Detailed instructions are available on http://www.inria.fr/eg96 . For
additional information, please contact the Slides, Videos and WWW
Competitions Chair or the conference secretariat.
