We have been using wtk for the i860 for the past couple of years. for
our new projects we found their performance to be unacceptable. we
evaluated renderware and argonaut's brender as possible alternatives.
brender and renderware are 3d engines and provide no support for your
i/o devices. on the flip side we found the 3d performance of
renderware and argonaut far superior. our current systems had 2 -
i860 cards w/ a pentium motherboard. our model had less than 1000
polygons w/ 2 small surfaces textured. soundwise we had crystal
river's beachtron, a logitech head tracker, and a virtual research VR4
hmd. so w/ 2 i860 cards we average about 10 frames/sec.....w/ brender
i can get that w/ standard VGA cards.

w/ brender or renderware you'll need to write your own drivers and
develop your own control code. we ended up going w/ argonaut because
their documentation was better and their support is more reliable.
they seem very reponsive to customer needs.

good luck,
