It has been brought to my attention that during my temporary status as a
moderator of sci.virtual-worlds, a posting that I approved inadvertently
caused embarrasment for one of our devoted newsgroup members.

In an article posted on 08/28 (Subject: NEW-PROD: V-PC), I
inappropriatly placed a misleading subject tag, which was the cause for
embarassment to our member, Lew Hitchner, who had posted a followup
article on V-PC, which was prompted by a previous message.

Mr. Hitchner had no intention of implying that V-PC is a "NEW PRODUCT". This
was my mistake; as many of you know (which I did not), V-PC has
been on the market for at least a year. The way I edited and reposted Mr.
Hitchners article (without the original question, but only as a
followup) made it look as though he was announcing a new product, when
he was not, and has no affiliation with the (V-PC) company.

I apoligize to Mr. Hitchner for causing him this embarrassment, and to
the rest of you as well for not being more alert when posting this
particular article. It is sometimes difficult to learn how to maintain
a high quality newsgroup such as this one, and have as much success as
the usual moderator, and I hope that this does not cause any of you to
continue to contribute to what sci.virtual worlds truly represents.

[I apologize as well. However, in the defense of my able (yet up to
this point invisible) assistant Clarence. He has done a lot of hard
work moving sci.v-w and the archives safely. He has also put in a lot
of overtime (some of it volunteer) to keep this group going.
Clarence's mistake was made primarily because, as a moderator you keep
track of the disscussions mentally. This was a scenario of the one
moderator going on vacation...I took my mental notes with me. A good
reason to _always_ put the "Re: SUBJECT-TAG: Discussion Title" when
you're responding. That way, you don't depend on the memory of the
moderator.
