Edward,

The Virtual I/O glasses get their video input from the VGA port 
that is then fed through a converter to produce the NTSC signal 
that the HMD needs.  The serial connection is used to send 
tracking info.  The company I work for is looking at using them 
to develop some VR applications, so we've been playing around 
with them for a couple of months.
