Virtual Reality SIG presents Virtual Sets and QuickTime Virtual Reality

On Tuesday Evening September 19th, The Virtual Reality Special Interest
Group will meet at The Electronic Cafe International (ECI) at 7:30 PM.
Marty Kassowitz of View 360 Productions in North Hollywood will make a
live presentation showcasing his capabilities with Apple's revolutionary
new QuickTime Virtual Reality (QTVR) authoring System. Marty recently
completed a project to produce 3 QTVR scenes from photos taken at ECI. He
will be displaying the ECI scenes, discussing the production process, and
looking at both the short term and long term prospects for this
technology. ECI is one of the first venues in the world to be captured and
displayed in this new medium.

Come join us for one of the first opportunities for the public to get a
glimpse of QTVR which is best described as a medium for creating real
world, panoramic, 360 degree, time independent, spatial nodes. These still
life, real world photographic scenes are capable of being used as Web
based media or as content for a CD ROM titles. The meeting will be an
excellent opportunity to witness how QTVR is redefining and extending the
capabilities of the World Wide Web.

One of the hottest growing areas in the realm of real time virtual
technologies is the concept of Virtual Sets. This technology began to be
showcased at both the NAB 95 Conference and SIGGRAPH 95, with many more
companies expecting to join the fray in 1996. Now blue screens, chromakey
switchers, real time image generators, digital video cameras are being
melded in new ways to open new dimensions to computer generated television
production. ElectroGIG is one of the first companies to introduce a turn
key virtual set for video production, with their new REALITY TRACKING
System.

We will be joined by Mike Dilworth, Director of R&D for ElectroGIG who has
been developing the REALITY TRACKING system for the last year. Their
flagship product is GIG3DGO, a high end modeling, animation, and rendering
software system for Silicon Graphics Workstations. Mike will discuss how
Virtual Set technologies could open up many new creative opportunities for
integrating live performers into fully interactive 3 dimensional virtual
worlds for TV and video productions. Kit Galloway will also demonstrate
how real-time blue screen techniques can be utilized in videoconferencing
environments.

The Electronic Cafe is located at 1649 18th Street in Santa Monica. From
the 10 Freeway, exit at Cloverfield, go right to Olympic, then left to
18th Street. Take a right on 18th and proceed to the last driveway
entrance on the right. ECI is on the south east corner of that lot, and
parking is also available on 18th, and on Olympic. Admission is $10.00.
