            Silicon Graphics Awarded CyberEdge Journal
"Virtual Reality Product of the Year" For Indigo2 Impact:

Indigo2 IMPACT(TM) Systems Recognized for Superior Performance

Mountain View, Calif. (April 2, 1996)-Silicon Graphics, Inc. (NYSE:
SGI) today announced that its Indigo2 IMPACT workstation family was
named "Product of the Year" by the CyberEdge Journal. One of 41
finalists, Indigo2 IMPACT was chosen by a panel of 40 judges
comprising editors and technology experts from the virtual reality
developers community.

Selected for pushing the boundaries of price point and performance by
bringing high-end technology down to a more affordable level, Silicon
Graphics received its award April 1 at an IEEE Virtual Reality Annual
International Symposium (VRAIS'96) ceremony in Santa Clara. The award
is granted each year to products in four categories that significantly
advance the state of the art in virtual reality.

"Every year there are a few virtual reality products and
applications that really excite me," said Ben Delaney, editor of
CyberEdge Journal. "These are the realized ideas, the dreams come
true, that take me back to the first demo of virtual reality I ever
saw. Silicon Graphics has once again raised the ante in the
performance poker game."

"We're delighted to accept the VR Product of the Year Award,"
said Linda Jacobson, Virtual Reality Evangelist for Silicon
Graphics. "IMPACT's outstanding performance is based on three key
technologies--superior graphics, a powerful CPU and a high-performance
operating system. This award is confirmation that the ideal VR desktop
workstation for digital prototyping, surgical simulation and other
application areas is Indigo2 IMPACT."

The Indigo2 IMPACT family provides users with real-time image mapping and
high-speed volume rendering. It is the only graphics platform to offer both the
world's fastest 3D graphics and image performance on the desktop. Performance
levels attained an even higher level with the January 22 introduction of the
Indigo2 IMPACT 10000 systems.

An extension of the original family, Indigo2 IMPACT 10000 combines the
computational power of the MIPS=AE R10000 RISC microprocessor with the
interactivity and realism of Indigo2 IMPACT graphics all in a complete 64-bit
software environment, IRIX 6.2. Today the family includes three primary models,
Indigo2 Solid IMPACT 10000, Indigo2 High IMPACT 10000 and Indigo2 Maximum
IMPACT 10000.

This year marked the fifth anniversary of the CyberEdge Journal
Awards, the only awards specifically for the virtual reality
industry. CyberEdge Journal is the world's leading newsletter of
virtual reality. Published since 1991, CyberEdge Journal covers VR
around the world for over 3,000 readers in 40 countries.
