Greetings,

As a field of active research, haptics and haptic interfaces is relatively
new. Haptics, for anyone who is not familiar with the term, refers to the
sense of touch, both tactile and proprioceptive. Haptic interfaces allow
force-feedback and manual interaction with virtual or remote environments.
In an effort to help the progression of research and interest in this
field, the Applied Science and Engineering Laboratories of the University
of Delaware and the A.I. duPont Institute have created an email list
server. This purpose of the list is to create a forum for research
discussion, questions, etc. as well as to provide information on the
latest applications, devices, software, etc. As with all lists of this
type, its success at meeting these goals depends on the participants.There
is no way for me to reach everyone interested in haptics, so please pass
this along to anyone you know. Thank you.

All routine administrative requests (including subscriptions and
unsubscriptions) concerning this mailing list are handled by an
automated server. Please read this message carefully to find the
information relevant to you.

SUBSCRIBING
===========

To subscribe to haptics, send the following in the body (not
the subject line) of an email message to "Majordomo@asel.udel.edu":

	subscribe haptics

This will subscribe the account from which you send the message to
the haptics list.

If you wish to subscribe another address instead (such as a local
redistribution list), you can use a command of the form:

	subscribe haptics other-address@your_site.your_net

UNSUBSCRIBING
=============

To unsubscribe from haptics, send the following in the body (not
the subject line) of an email message to "Majordomo@asel.udel.edu":

	unsubscribe haptics

This will unsubscribe the account from which you send the message.
If you are subscribed with some other address, you'll have to send
a command of the following form instead:

	unsubscribe haptics other-address@your_site.your_net

If you don't know what address you are subscribed with, you can send
the following command to see who else is on the list (assuming that
information isn't designated "private" by the owner of the list):o

	who haptics

If you want to search non-privte lists at this server, you can do that
by sending a command like:

	which string

This will return a list of all entries on all lists that contain
"string".

HELP
====

To find out more about the automated server and the commands it
understands, send the following command to "Majordomo@asel.udel.edu":

	help

If you feel you need to reach a human, send email to

	haptics-approval@asel.udel.edu

or to myself at
fritz@asel.udel.edu.

hope to see you on the list,
Jason

P.S. NWU has recently created a Haptics Community Web Page. Check it out as
well.
