On Friday, 23 August 1996, at the "Alpbacher Technologiegesprdche"
within the "European Forum Alpbach", Alpbach, Austria,
(http://dm2.uibk.ac.at/goli/alpbach/elpbach.html) as a world premiere
a live tele-assisted surgical procedure was performed. The AKH Vienna
(University Hospital Vienna) was linked to Alpbach via an ISDN
connection.

This historic event was documented by the ORF (Austrian Broadcasting
Corporation, http://www.orf.at/orf) and presented in "Modern Times" the
same evening (23.8.1996, ORF 2, 10.30 p.m.).
