Aims and Scope:
---------------

This workshop is a follow up of the Eurographics Symposium and
Workshop on Multimedia held in Graz in June 1994 and it continues a
series of three successful Eurographics workshops on Multimedia. In
the last few years multimedia hardware and applications have become
widely available on PC and workstations. Moreover, through the
tremendous development and the wide usage of the World Wide Web
multimedia applications have been brought over the network to many
people. Based on these developments the workshop wants to address
actual problems of the usage of Multimedia in distributed applications
over the network. Contributions are invited with respect to all
aspects of ultimedia, but especially related to computer graphics. The
emphasis should lie on hallenging problems and innovative solutions,
involving - for instance -

   - Tools and techniques for generating, exploring and displaying
     multimedia via the network
   - New approaches for accessing, analysing and collaborating on
     hyperstructured multimedia information over networks
   - Design of algorithms and data structures
   - Hardware and software systems
   - Application of computer graphics in multimedia environments

Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:
   - Multimedia in Graphics Applications
   - Multimedia on Graphics Highways
   - Multimedia Browsers
   - Multimedia Online Services
   - Distributed Media Services
   - Compression and Scaling
   - Multimedia in Scientific Computing
   - Multimedia and Spatial Information Systems
   - Multimedia and Interaction
   - Collaborative Multimedia; CSCW on Multimedia Documents
   - Distributed Multimedia Applications
(Computer Based Training, Distributed Learning, Multimedia
      Presentations, and others)
   - Multimedia Authoring Systems

Workshop Format:
----------------

Participation will be limited to about 60 people to encourage
interaction and discussion. Each accepted paper will be given 20
minutes for presentation plus 10 minutes for discussion. The format of
the workshop will include poster sessions as well as demonstrations
and numerous exchange opportunities, and problem sessions may be
formed for further discussion. Selection of papers will take place on
the basis of position papers and extended abstracts clearly stating
the problem, related work of others, own solution or attempts,
application and/or discussion (3-10 pages). The

papers will be reviewed by the programme committee. Papers and conclusions

will appear in a participants edition of the workshop proceedings. A
publication (e.g., in the Eurographics Workshop Series by Springer) will
depend on the quality of the contributions. Selected authors will be
invited to submit revised versions of their paper.

Schedule:
---------
March 1, 1996 Submission of position papers and extended abstracts
April 15, 1996 Notification of acceptance
May 15, 1996 Camera-ready version due

by the German Interest Group on Imaging and Visualization within the German

Computer Society (GI).

Fees:
-----

Attendance fees will be charged and will cover the participants
edition of the proceedings, refreshment during the coffee breaks and
the social event. The fees are about 180 DM for Eurographics members
and 340 DM for non-members. A discount of 50 DM is given to GI
members. A publication in the Eurographics Book Series by
Springer-Verlag is planned . This will increase the participants fee
by additional 60 DM. A softcover book with the final workshop papers
