Regular readers here may recall my attempts in recent months to
have the University of Melbourne's forays into virtual reality
technology organised and coordinated in a sensible way. It is not
yet clear whether this will be done, nor who will be involved in
this administration. Most importantly, it is not clear whether
there is a position here for me. The wheels of bureaucracy turn
very slowly.

So I am considering all options, and have put myself on the job
market. I am prepared to travel; English-speaking countries are
strongly preferred.

I've included a generic version of my cover letter and CV below.
If you think that your company could make good use of my skills,
please don't hesitate to drop me a line.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I would like to apply for employment with your company.

I have attached a digital copy of my Curriculum Vitae to the end
of this mail. My background is broad and varied. I have degrees
in both Electrical Engineering and Science, and my Ph.D. is in
Theoretical Particle Physics. I seek a full-time programming,
analyst or technical writing position, in the fields of graphics,
simulation, virtual reality, or document processing systems.

I am presently employed as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the
University of Melbourne, where my job is to investigate areas
of research in Theoretical Physics by analytical and computational
means. I also lecture courses on Digital Systems, and the LaTeX
document processing system.

While studying for my Engineering degree, I was employed by IBM,
as a Systems Engineering and Marketing Assistant. I have developed
several successful home-business programming-based enterprises
over and above my academic pursuits. The common thread is my quest
for excellence.

I invite you to take a glance at my home page, which contains a
selection of my work from the past few years. The topics under
consideration there may be of interest to you; at any rate, you
may gather that I take pride in ensuring that all of my work is
highly original, expertly executed, and brought to as complete
and as perfect a finish as can be achieved.

I have also put together a more convenient MS-DOS demonstration
of two of my better-known public domain software packages, one
written in the tightly constrained LaTeX macro language, and the
other in highly structured and object-oriented ANSI C. The file
is located at http://www.ph.unimelb.edu.au/~jpc/costella.zip.
Unfortunately, neither package is graphically-oriented; the code
for my home-business graphical application is not released.

I seek a position that requires a high degree of initiative and
lateral thinking, yet seeks to create products with a concrete
benefit in the real world; for which self-motivation and self-
guidance are crucial, but for which coordination and integration
with a team of similarly motivated individuals are of paramount
importance. My outlook and experience are broad; my ability to
focus my talents on a specific goal is demonstrable.

I look forward to hearing what exciting employment opportunities
can be offered by your company.

Sincerely,
John P. Costella, Ph.D.
