VisNet will be distributed free over the Internet starting next month. VisNets's third-generation technology for creating and exploring 'live' virtual worlds on the Internet - lets people experience a whole new level of interactive Web-based entertainment, data analysis, and training. VisNet will be able to input both VRML and SuperVRML files. VisNet tests on average five to 10 times faster than the first generation 3-D viewers. The VisNet 3-D interactive viewer, which requires a minimum 486 processor, runs on all standard Windows platforms including Windows 3.1, Windows 95 and Windows NT. The viewer will operate as either a stand-alone helper application or as an inline plug-in for Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Explorer Web browsers. The VisNet viewer features a control panel for consistent navigation through the universe of virtual worlds on the World Wide Web, and for controlling the behavior of intelligent objects such as calculators, clocks and cars. Superscape continues to improve upon its own technology with the world's only Virtual Clip Art featuring built-in intelligence and behaviors that offer faster and richer 3-D world creation than competing products. "I've built hundreds of 3-D worlds for clients using Superscape products and nothing's faster," said Gerald O'Connor of Summit Graphics. "The proven development tools, wide range of import and export file support, suite of image and sound editors, and outstanding customer support make Superscape authoring tools number one when it comes to virtual world building." Superscape plans to introduce several new authoring tools for small businesses, web developers and consumers to easily and rapidly create virtual reality objects and environments. The Superscape product portfolio includes VRT 4.0 (which provides both VRML and SuperVRML output), Networks, Superscape Developers Kit and Visualiser. All products run on a 486 Pentium or Pentium Pro computer with at least 8 MB of RAM. An SVGA monitor, keyboard and a mouse complete the virtual reality system. While not required, Superscape tools can work with a wide variety of head-mounted displays (HMD's) for immersive applications.
