Subject: MISC: Speaker needed on VR in firefighting training

I was wondering if you good people could help me out with a request
that has been sent to me ...

I have received an e-mail from Mr. Richard Balsillie, the Executive
Director of the Australian Fire Protection Association. The AFPA is
apparently conducting an annual conference here in Melbourne in
October, and "... are hoping to have a speaker provide a forward
looking presentation exploring the uses of virtual reality in
training."

I don't believe that the AFPA are aware of any existing uses of VR
in firefighting or fire protection, but I seem to remember some
posts here to that effect some time ago. Anyone that could jog my
memory (or even better, someone involved in the projects themselves)
would be most appreciated.

I'm also not sure whether the AFPA are in a position to ship out
a speaker from overseas, but if you yourself are an authority on the
subject, you may well be able to score yourself a trip to sunny
Melbourne in October. :-)

If you have any information, Mr. Balsillie's e-mail address is

                  afpa@werple.mira.net.au

or else you can send it to me and I'll forward it on to him. He
has also given me his telephone number:

                     +61 3 9882-2800

Thanks in advance
John Costella
