CALL FOR PAPERS

6th Workshop on Information Technologies and Systems (WITSU96)
Cleveland, Ohio
December 14-15, 1996

The 6th Workshop on Information Technologies and Systems (WITS'96)
will be held in Cleveland, Ohio, during December 14-15, 1996. The
purpose of the workshop is to promote discussion and interaction among
members of the Information Systems community with research interests
in cutting-edge information technologies and systems. We are
particularly interested in exchanging research ideas and results which
will not only contribute to the academic areas, but will also benefit
the business community in the foreseeable future.

TOPICS
We solicit condensed research papers describing original ideas
and new results on information technologies and their applications.
The research should address issues concerning the theory,
development, and/or deployment of information technologies
and systems. We also encourage people to submit proposals for
panels that examine an emerging, innovative, or otherwise
provocative issue. We are offering for the first time poster sessions
in WITS. These poster sessions will include "research-in-progress"
and "experience reports." The research-in-progress describes
interesting results that are new, while an experience report
describes lessons learned in the development, operations, and
maintenance of actual systems.
Suggested topics include, but not limited to:

- Decision Support Systems
- Integrated Cognitive Architecture
- Theory of Model Formulation
- Executable Modeling Languages
- Model Base Management Systems
- Data Base Systems (Modeling, Language
        Development, and Implementation)
- Natural Language Front-ends to Models
- Extensible Data Base Systems
- Object-Oriented Data Base Systems
- Distributed Data Base Systems
- Internet Issues
- Computer Networks and Telecom
- Knowledge Based Systems
- Applications of Distributed AI
- Collaborative and Group Systems
- Human-Computer Interfaces
- Software Reusability
- Software Process Modeling
- Virtual Reality
- Software Development Environment
- Software Validation
- Quality and Measurement Issues in Data
       and Software

INSTRUCTIONS
The submission length of all papers (including condensed
research papers, research-in-progress, and experience reports)
should be limited to 10 pages (including tables, figures, and
references). They should be double-spaced using 12-point font.
Panel proposals, on the other hand, are limited to 5 pages. They
should include a summary of the topics to be covered, names, and
affiliations of 3-4 panelists who have made a commitment to
participate, a summary of their position statements, and a brief
biography of each. A mix of industry and academic panel members
is recommended. Queries regarding panels should be directed
to Arun Sen. Submissions violating the above requirements will be
rejected without going through the review process. All submissions,
excluding panel proposals, will be reviewed double blind.
Selection for presentation at the workshop and publication in the
proceedings will be based on originality, contribution to the field,
and workshop interest.
Unlike condensed research papers, each entry in a poster session
will get a maximum of 5 pages in the proceedings. Once the
selection is finalized, we would ask the participants of poster sessions
to condense their presentations. Authors of selected research papers
may be invited to submit complete versions of their work for possible
journal publication after the workshop.
