Programmer for VR in Medicine/Rehabilitation

Department of Psychology
Univ of Reading, England, UK. &
Univ of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK.

Appointment Scale: RA1A/B (Sterling: 14317 - 15986 neg.)
Duration: 1 year
Experience: C/C++ & 3D API (pref RenderWare and PC programming)

As part of a wider EU project (VREPAR) on assessment and
rehabilitation using VR technology, the University of Reading
and University of Edinburgh are conducting work on the use of VR
displays for hemiparesis (lateralised paralysis following stroke)
and hemineglect (lateralised attentional problems following
stroke).

We are looking to recruit a programmer to build an experimental
rig on a Pentium platform using RenderWare (or a similar 3D API)
and customise test materials for the hemiparesis research. The
final product will be a small set of rehabilitation environments
to be evaluated in a clinical context and in collaboration with
IBM (Italy). The post-holder would be working in Reading with
John Wann but may be required to travel occasionally to Edinburgh
to work with Simon Rushton, or Italy to liaise with VREPAR
partners.

Initial appointment is for 12 months available from 1/2/96, but
extension beyond 1997 may be possible through additional
project funding.

Inquiries are welcomed from programmers at a post-graduate level,
who have experience in constructing 3D interactive displays.
In addition to C and 3D skills, experience interfacing PCs
through ADCs and other IO channels would be an advantage.

Due to the short-term nature of the initial appointment,
applications can only be considered from European Nationals
or those with current work permits for the European Union.
