You might try checking out Stuart Ralston at Trimble navigation in
Christchurch if you go that far south. I used to work at Trimble and I
know he is involved in a VR/headsup unit for surveyors.

I have a strong interest in VR myself but unfortunately don't have the
resources (i.e. $$$) to do anything about it at the moment.
