Was Re: HUMAN-FACTORS: Long term immersion in VR:

The point you raise has "hidden" importance because "consciousness" is
a form of virtual reality... one in which each of us is immersed,
uniquely, in accord with one's experiences. There is physical reality,
and our central nervous systems construct "virtual reality"
simulations of that physical reality... many societal problems result
from the fact that people behave in accord with their
individually-unique "virtual realities" - as is the case, recurringly,
in the lives of adolescents - their "rebellions"... during the courses
of their educations, kids come to spend time together that's
sufficient, at least over the short term, for their shared experiences
to override familial experiences: "poof!" new VR's happen... TV,
movies, and other modern media (including the kind of VR you're
talking about), and, of course, drugs, all do the same thing to
varying degrees... this is True because everything's "interpreted" and
experienced through the "lens" of our central nervous systems.

Cheers,
ken
